Eligibility and age requirements
We do not impose a strict minimum-age requirement. If you are under the age of 13, obtain permission from a parent or guardian before installing the App. The App also collects limited analytics data (more information is available in the Privacy Policy). Analytics collection is optional and should be disabled for users under the age of 13. If someone under the age of 13 has used Focus Guardian with analytics enabled, please disable analytics and email us at contact@focusGuardian.com. Include the user’s Anonymous Analytics ID, found under Settings > Privacy & About. After receiving the email, Focus Guardian will delete the analytics data associated with that user.
About the App
Focus Guardian is a macOS application designed to help users stay focused through optional live app and website blocking, as well as optional Presence Detection (face tracking). Focus Guardian is developed using SwiftUI and relies on several Apple frameworks, including Vision, AVFoundation, and SwiftData.
Focus Guardian includes features such as:
Presence Detection (optional) — helps ensure users remain present throughout the duration of a focus session.
Content Blocking (optional) — blocks distracting applications and websites selected by the user.
Pomodoro Templates (optional) — allows users to customize work sessions, break lengths, and timer schedules.
Device permissions
Focus Guardian requests certain device permissions to provide its focus features. Some of the permissions it requests through macOS are described below.
Apple Events — This permission allows Focus Guardian to communicate with other apps. Focus Guardian uses it to identify when a user visits a blocked website and then replace the tab’s content with a blocked-content screen. If permission is denied, website blocking will be unavailable.
Camera — Camera data is used for Presence Detection, which helps determine whether users remain present throughout a focus session. If permission is denied, Presence Detection will be unavailable.
File Searching — Focus Guardian automatically searches application folders on your Mac to suggest applications you may want to block.
More information about privacy can be found within Focus Guardian’s Privacy Policy.
Accounts
Focus Guardian does not include an account system. Focus Guardian stores user data in the user’s iCloud account.
Acceptable Use
You may use Focus Guardian only for lawful, personal, and authorized purposes. You agree to follow these Terms and all applicable laws while using the App.
You may not:

Use Focus Guardian to secretly monitor, restrict, control, harass, intimidate, or surveil another person.
Misrepresent your identity, authority, or relationship with another user.

We may restrict, suspend, or terminate access to the App if we reasonably believe that it is being misused, that these Terms have been violated, or that continued access could harm Focus Guardian, its users, or another person.
Any enforcement action will be subject to applicable law and any consumer rights that cannot legally be limited.
Data Loss and Account Deletion
Focus Guardian is not responsible for unintentional or intentional data loss, including streaks. In addition, Focus Guardian does not implement an account system because data is simply stored on Apple’s iCloud servers. Data can be deleted within Apple’s System Settings app.
Third-Party Services and Technologies
Focus Guardian uses or interacts with services, software, frameworks, websites, and platform functionality supplied by third parties. These third-party components may be governed by their providers’ own terms, licenses, and privacy policies.
Current third-party services and technologies include:
Apple and macOS: Focus Guardian relies on Apple frameworks and operating-system capabilities for its interface, local data storage, camera access, face-presence processing, application detection, browser automation, and other device functions. Distribution, installation, updates, and purchases made through Apple may also be governed by Apple’s terms.
PostHog: Focus Guardian uses PostHog to collect analytics about App usage and lifecycle events so that we can understand and improve the App. Focus Guardian provides an in-app option to opt out of these analytics. The collection and treatment of analytics data must also be described in our Privacy Policy.
FaviconFinder and website providers: Focus Guardian uses the FaviconFinder software package to locate and download website icons. When the App retrieves an icon, it may connect to the website entered or selected by the user. That website may receive standard network information associated with the request, such as the user’s IP address and browser-like request information.
Framer: Certain Focus Guardian webpages, including informational, privacy, and website-blocking pages, are hosted using Framer. Opening those pages transfers the user from the App to web content and may result in information being processed according to Framer’s and the website operator’s applicable policies.
Supported web browsers: To provide website-blocking functionality, Focus Guardian may interact with supported browsers through macOS automation features. Current browser integrations may include Safari, Google Chrome, Arc, Dia, and Atlas. Browser availability and behavior are controlled by their respective developers.

Produce or maintain a particular streak, habit, or outcome.
Block every application, website, notification, or source of distraction.
You remain responsible for deciding whether Focus Guardian and its settings are appropriate for your circumstances. Do not rely on the App where a failure, interruption, or restriction could create a safety risk or prevent access to emergency services, essential communications, medical resources, or safety-critical information.
During an emergency, or whenever your health or someone else’s health is at risk, do not hesitate to leave your focus session unattended while Presence Detection is enabled, even if doing so breaks your streak.
